Our Mission
Why do we do what we do?
Children in out of home care often experience disrupted educational experiences and difficulty in keeping up with their peers at school. A report by the Queensland Government found that children in out of home care were twice as likely to not meet national minimum standards for numeracy, reading, or writing (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2014 ). The Australian Institute of Family Services also reports on the increased risk of Foster children not completing Secondary School and often requiring additional support to do so (Osborn & Bromfield, 2007). A staggering 75% of children in care do not graduate from high school, although this is less surprising when considering that foster children as a group have the worst educational outcomes of any group of children in Australia (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 2011) .
What is the goal?
We are students looking to make a difference. All of our team are unpaid volunteers trying to make a difference in any way possible. As a brain child of a few university students we are looking to provide youth in care with specialised support from students who have not only completed, but thrived in high school. Our tutors provide students with in depth advice and assistance to help ensure youth can complete high school to the best of their ability. By getting youth on track in high school we can help set them up for a life of opportunity.
We currently serve the suburbs of Sydney wherever a tutor is available. If you are not from Sydney but would like to get involved feel free to contact us!
